The study found that high meat diets produce an average of 10.24kg of CO2 per day per person, compared to 5.37kg for low meat diets, 4.16kg for vegetarian diets, and 2.47kg for vegan diets. The meat industry criticized the study, calling it overly simplistic.

The environmental impact of mass meat production is well-documented, including deforestation for beef supply and the use of soybeans for animal feed. As plant-based diets gain popularity and alternative meat markets grow, consumer awareness of these issues is increasing.

According to Statista’s Consumer Insights survey, this infographic explores the prevalence of flexitarianism in Europe. Flexitarianism refers to mostly vegetarian diets with occasional meat or fish consumption. The data highlights regional differences: in 2022-23, approximately 19% of respondents in Germany and Spain identified as flexitarians, compared to 14% in France. In Eastern Europe, the adoption of flexitarianism is lower, with only 7% in Poland, 5% in Hungary, and 5% in Czechia.

The following chart shows the share of respondents claiming to be flexitarians in selected European countries.

This story originally appeared on Statista.

[6

post-4127","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-health
["GET
